Ormond Ballet Dress Code
A Pre-Professional Program Dress Code
Classical ballet is a codified art form, passed down through generations with precision, discipline, and respect for tradition. The Vaganova Method, in particular, demands clarity of line, purity of placement, and an uncompromising attention to detail—principles that begin long before a dancer moves.
Simplicity is a defining mark of a refined dancer. While strength, clarity, and technical mastery are developed through disciplined training, simplicity begins with presentation. For this reason, Ormond Ballet maintains a uniform dress code.
As a pre-professional ballet school, our dress code is an integral component of the curriculum. Appropriate attire allows instructors to accurately assess alignment, coordination, and technical progress, while reinforcing the discipline and professionalism required to study a classical art form. How a dancer presents themselves—both in conduct and in dress—directly supports their development as an artist.
To ensure each dancer is properly prepared for class, the following outlines the required dress code for Ormond Ballet.
General dress code notes:
Please wear clothing over dance attire as we don’t want our students walking around outside in leotards and tights.
Dancers must have proper shoes for each class, absolutely NO street shoes in the studio.
NO Jewelry except studs or small hoops
NO watches
NO necklaces
NO rings
NO dangling earrings
All warm-up clothing must be dance warm-ups or form-fitting;
NO over-sized hoodies
NO over-sized sweatpants
NO baggy clothing
Dancers should not have long nails for the safety of others
NO nail polish during performances
Hair must be pulled back and out of your face.
Ballet Class; classical ballet bun (See video below)
Jazz, Modern, Contemporary Class; secure ponytail or classical ballet bun
Hip-Hop Class; pulled out of face
NOTE; if hair is too short to secure into a bun or ponytail, please secure back with pins, a fabric headband, and gel/hairspray.
